DIY Book Tracker for Kids

Since she was born, reading has been a part of my daily ritual with my daughter. I read her all kinds of books from board books to novels. This year, I made a resolution to read her 100 books and that got me thinking of a clever way to track them.

I first checked Etsy. They have TONS of book trackers on there that you can order and will easily get the job done. But I couldn’t find one I really loved. Then my mother-in-law gifted me an Atelier Choux Carré in bloom pink and it came in one of their stunning signature Monceau gift boxes.

By the way, if you need a gift, the carré is absolutely stunning.

I immediately fell in love with the gift box and looked for a way to repurpose it, and since the imagery on it was a building I thought it could be a library.

Eventually, this book counter is something she’ll be able to understand and use herself. For now, it’s just a way for me to stay intentional about reading regularly and to make books feel familiar and present from the beginning, and give this beautiful box a second life.

How I Made It

I cut the box to just the piece I needed and framed it without the glass.

I ordered pink hanging paper tags from Amazon along with vinyl number stickers. I applied the numbers directly to the tags. If my daughter was older I probably would let her pick the image and write the numbers herself rather than ordering the stickers.

I used small white screw-in hooks spaced evenly along the bottom of the frame. The tags hang directly from the hooks, which makes updating the count quick. I put three but if you think you need four I salute you!

For the labels, I went a step further and ordered these custom Flexibrass labels from Etsy, but that part is completely optional. You could just as easily handwrite them, print something simple at home, or skip labels entirely.
